What does the future of fragrance look like? A new partnership between International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) and technology startup Vapor Communications, aims to advance the future of digital scent. Combining certain Vapor software and hardware scent platforms with IFF scent technology and expertise, the two companies plan to bring mobile scent experiences to consumers.

Vapor Communications’ technology is powered by oNotes, which it describes as “a software platform for scent communication that permits the easy integration of scent into electronics.” The core of the hardware is in the oChip, a scent cartridge that embeds in electronic devices, clothing, furniture and other objects to deliver personal scent experiences similar to how an audio headset delivers sound.
